Timeless Dove Canyon Wedding at Wedgewood Weddings
An elegant Orange County celebration with blue hour portraits and a classic getaway car
There are some wedding days that just feel instantly timeless. This Dove Canyon wedding by Wedgewood Weddings in Trabuco Canyon was one of those days – elegant, relaxed, and full of quiet, meaningful moments that fit this upscale estate perfectly. Nestled in a gated South Orange County community with sweeping canyon and mountain views, Dove Canyon is a scenic golf club wedding venue that feels like a private, hidden retreat.
As an Orange County and Long Beach wedding photographer, I’m always looking for venues that balance beautiful architecture with natural scenery and good light. Dove Canyon checks every box – from its mid-century modern, Frank Lloyd Wright–inspired design to the canyon views and mature trees that surround the property.
Getting Ready at Dove Canyon
The day started in the Canyon Suite, one of the on-site getting ready spaces. With its soft light and neutral tones, it was the perfect backdrop for capturing details: the dress hanging against warm wood, heirloom jewelry laid out on the counter, and quiet moments with the wedding party before the pace picked up.
From there, we moved between the get-ready spaces and The Lounge – a dramatic yet cozy cocktail area featuring vaulted ceilings, wood and stone details, and floor-to-ceiling windows that showcase the canyon views. It is one of my favorite spots at Dove Canyon for candid pre-ceremony photos as guests arrive and the excitement starts to build.
Oak Terrace Ceremony Under the 175-Year-Old Tree
The ceremony took place on the Oak Terrace, Dove Canyon’s outdoor ceremony site. This space is centered around a massive 175-year-old California oak tree wrapped in romantic bistro lights, with a stately courtyard and stone walls framing the scene.
The couple chose a classic and minimal floral design – soft neutrals and greenery that complemented the natural surroundings instead of competing with them. As guests took their seats, the canyon breeze moved gently through the branches overhead.
From a photography standpoint, this ceremony spot is a dream. The natural shade from the oak tree creates flattering light, and the clean lines of the terrace keep the focus on the couple and their families. During the vows, I moved quietly around the perimeter to capture both the big emotional moments and the small in-between expressions that really tell the story.
Portraits Around the Grounds: Waterfall, Views, and Architecture
After the ceremony, we took advantage of Dove Canyon’s variety of backdrops. The venue features an 80-foot waterfall, manicured grounds, and a striking stone-and-wood exterior, which all offer different looks without needing to leave the property.
We started with family portraits in the courtyard, then moved the wedding party to a spot with canyon and mountain views for those classic, celebratory shots. From there, I took the couple to a quieter area near the trees and stonework for more intimate portraits – the kind of photos that feel modern and editorial, but still true to who they are.
Blue Hour Couple Session
As the reception moved into dinner, I kept an eye on the light. Dove Canyon’s setting in Trabuco Canyon means you get a beautiful transition from golden hour into blue hour, with the hills and sky softly shifting color.
Just after sunset, I pulled the couple for a quick blue hour session. We stepped out onto the balcony and nearby outdoor spaces where the bistro lights and interior glow from Dove Hall created a gorgeous contrast against the deepening sky.
This is one of my favorite times to photograph – the world feels quieter for a moment. The couple finally has a chance to breathe, look at each other, and take it all in. We created a mix of wide, cinematic frames that show off the venue and tighter, emotive portraits that focus purely on connection. These blue hour images always end up being some of the most loved photos in the gallery.
A Cool Getaway Car Moment
To add an extra touch of personality, the couple incorporated a very cool car into their day – the perfect blend of elegance and attitude. We used the front entrance of Dove Canyon as our backdrop, with its stone façade, mature landscaping, and upscale estate feel that pairs beautifully with a classic or luxury vehicle.
We created a mini editorial session with the car:
The couple leaning against the doors, laughing between shots
A dramatic “just married” moment with the car pulled up near the entrance
Blue hour frames with headlights on and the venue softly glowing behind them
These images add a cinematic, modern edge to an otherwise very timeless wedding – a great example of how a few intentional details can completely elevate the final gallery.
Reception in Dove Hall
The reception took place in Dove Hall, a grand space with a full wall of windows overlooking the canyon. The couple placed their sweetheart table in front of the glass, so every toast and candid moment happened against that soft, natural backdrop.
The room’s wood tray ceiling, mahogany beams, and stone accents brought warmth and character, while the design stayed clean and classic:
Soft florals in neutral tones
Elegant place settings and candles
A layout that kept the dance floor central so guests stayed engaged all night
Once the formalities wrapped, the dance floor stayed full. The floor-to-ceiling windows reflected the movement and light, and the balcony just off the reception gave guests a quiet spot to step outside, look at the pond below, and take in the night.
