Seal Beach Maternity Photography

There’s something special about a maternity session that starts in the quiet shade of Gum Grove and ends with salty air and a glowing horizon. This Seal Beach maternity photoshoot was the perfect mix of earthy, natural texture and classic coastal sunset vibes.

We began the session at Gum Grove Nature Park, tucked along the edge of the Los Cerritos Wetlands, where the dirt trails wind under tall eucalyptus trees. The light here can be unreal—especially when the sun drops low enough to slip through the trees. We leaned into that beautiful backlight, letting it wrap around mom-to-be and create those soft, golden edges that feel warm, calm, and timeless.

Gum Grove is also great because it gives you variety fast: one minute you’ve got clean trails and open pockets of light, and the next you’re framed by natural layers of trees and brush. It’s simple, it’s quiet, and it photographs incredibly well—especially for couples who want a relaxed, natural look without feeling like they’re “posing” the whole time.

For the second half of the session, we headed down to the beach by the Seal Beach Jetty—right as sunset started to do its thing. The mood shift is the best part: from woodland backlight to wide-open sky, soft sand, and that last warm glow reflecting off the water. We finished with a mix of romantic shoreline portraits and a few bold, cinematic silhouettes as the sun dropped toward the horizon.

If you’re planning a maternity session in Seal Beach and want both nature trails and sunset beach photos, this combo is hard to beat. Gum Grove + the jetty gives you two totally different looks in one session—without a long drive in between.
